Macomb Fire Department
About Us
The primary goals of the Macomb Fire Department are to provide services in support of life safety, property preservation, and environmental protections to all citizens under its jurisdiction.
In fulfillment of these goals, the Macomb Fire Department will enforce fire safety codes, provide fire safety education, provide specialized rescue, emergency medical services, control and/or the suppression of fires, hazardous materials controls, investigate all fires, and support the prosecution of arson.
The Macomb Fire Department provides fire protection within the City of Macomb and contracted fire protection to properties in the four townships surrounding the city. All members of the department are licensed EMTs providing Basic Life Support, Emergency Medical Services.
The department is a member of Illinois Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division 55. MABAS 55 includes all fire departments within McDonough County, fire departments in two neighboring counties, and Lifeguard Ambulance Service. All members of our division can receive or provide assistance when a department needs additional resources for an emergency in their jurisdiction. MABAS divisions can also provide or receive resources from other divisions in the event of a natural disaster or act of terrorism.
The department is also a state deployable hazardous material team, trained and equipped for hazardous material spills and releases.
Members of the department are also trained in technical rescue services to include rope, trench, confined space, and structural collapse rescue. Personnel from our department in partnership with members of the Canton Fire Department make up a state deployable team for technical rescue services.
The department promotes fire prevention through inspections of businesses and enforcement of Fire and Life Safety Codes. We also provide fire prevention education to students through a partnership with the Macomb School District, St. Paul School, and daycares within the city. Upon request we also deliver fire safety/prevention talks to groups or individuals.
Macomb Fire Department assists Western Illinois University in training Resident Assistants living in dormitories on campus.
The department has members with National Child Passenger Seat Certification through Safe Kids Worldwide to inspect and install car seats in passenger vehicles.
