Deputy Director of Maintenance & Operations Western Illinois University Work Department: Facilities Management Class Title/Code: Deputy Director (1035) Effective Date: Apr 28, 2021 Responsibilities: Under administrative supervision of the Executive Director, this position will manage, assign, coordinate and supervise the work of facilities maintenance and operations staff. This position will also coordinate daily operational commitments with other campus departments. In addition, this individual analyzes, develops and resolves planning issues, inspects worksite of assigned departments to ensure quality and quantity are being upheld by employees or outside contractors, along with other related activities. This position also is responsible for drafting and finalizing policies and procedures for Facilities Management and campus wide use. • Oversee and supervise Facilities Building and Mechanical Maintenance Department, Building Services, Landscape Maintenance Department, and Work Center Control employees including work schedules, evaluation, discipline, and assignment of specific duties. • Directs and assists with planning, developing, scheduling and implemening preventative maintenance, renovations, contracts, deferred maintenance and safety for assigned departments. • Inspect facilities for normal operation, work completion, preventive maintenance program, and /or adherence to safety practices. • Liaison to campus for communication and coordination with campus activities and FM activities. • Collaborate with university officials, outside agencies and/or consultants on campus operational projects representing the department. • Coordinate training of in-house staff in their field of expertise. • Ensure enforcement of safety regulations for all Facilities Management staff in all on campus locations. • Oversight of assigned departmental budgets and staffing levels. • Actively participate in labor relations for departments assigned. • Remediate operational issues to minimize negative impact on the university while maintaining good customer service. • Monitor expenditures to remain within fiscal year allocations. Recommend and implement appropriate corrective action. • Demonstrate and guide supervisors in effective leadership and management strategies. • Ability to operate a personal computer and maintain University ECOM account. Required Qualifications: Eleven (11) years of progressively responsible management work experience in a private or governmental organization: • Eight (8) years in the area of maintenance and operations required by the position AND Three (3) years supervising the work of a professional staff or process within the maintenance and operations • Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the above three (3) years non-specialized experience requirement • Master’s degree may be substituted for one (1) year specialized work experience Application Deadline: May 12, 2021 Employment - Information & Instructions Complete an Employment Application online.
