SUMMARY:Thomas C. Jackson: Halo Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:In this new drawing series\, Cedar Rapids artist Thomas C. Jackson combines images to create broken narratives. He pairs human figures with objects in the everyday world. The objects are surrounded by a colorful "halo\," which elevates the importance of the object so that it functions like a story starter or Rorschach test. While these isolated images help focus the viewer's attention\, they also encourage viewers to create their own narratives as they consider man's relationship to nature\, historical events\, technology\, and other people. Thomas C. Jackson earned a B.A. in Studio Art at Western Illinois University\, and an M.F.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Notre Dame. After teaching art at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids\, and a successful career in the design field\, Jackson now works full time as an artist. His drawings\, paintings\, and photographs have been exhibited in numerous national exhibitions. This exhibition is funded in part by a Visiting Lectures Committee Grant Award.
