Created as a way to inspire parents\, teachers\, and caregivers to take young children outdoors\, it combines learning and literacy with physical activity and natural curiosity. StoryWalk helps build children's interest in nature and reading while encouraging healthy activity\, creative engagement\, and inspired connections for both adults and children. The StoryWalk project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier\, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson and her inspiration can be seen worldwide as StoryWalks have been installed in 50 states and 13 countries! \n\n \n\nThe Macomb Park District StoryWalk \, installed at Lakeview Nature Area\, consist of 20 story boards. Each board features laminated pages from a children's book that are installed along an outdoor path through the restored prairie and attached to a special display post. As one strolls down the trail they will be directed to the next page in the story\, creating an active and engaging reading experience. The StoryWalk project also allows the opportunity to highlight diverse authors\, illustrators\, and stories that help reflect and celebrate the lives of all. Placed within the sanctuary of nature\, StoryWalks combine the narrative and imaginative power of the visual arts alongside the magic storytelling of the written word to create a unique experience that directly benefits the community and encourages wonderment through learning!
