SUMMARY:CANCELED - Reception: Ann Coddington "entwine"
DESCRIPTION:Champaign\, IL artist Ann Coddington will have her solo exhibition\, "entwine"\, on display February 18 through March 26\, at the Western Illinois University Art Gallery. A reception for the artist will be held Thursday\, March 26 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. The artist will speak about her work at 5:00 pm. "The fiber techniques that I use are drawn from the ancient craft of basketry. In my work\, I tie string together\, bend some sticks\, interweave fibers\, and form plaster in my hands to create a sculptural expression of my embodied experiences. The vessel objects I make explore somatic boundaries of things: eternal and ephemeral\, strong and delicate\, masculine and feminine\, free and captive\, old and young\, living and dead. These ineffable memories held by the body are potent\, penetrating\, and enduring." The exhibit is open free to the public. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-noon\; 1-4 p.m. and Saturday 1-4 p.m. The gallery is closed on University holidays.
