SUMMARY:2023 Legislative Day
DESCRIPTION:The Government & Legislative Affairs Committee of the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to join us as we travel to Springfield to meet with Illinois legislative leaders to discuss critical issues for our region. \n\n\n\nWe will start the day in the conference room at Credit Union 1 (225 S. College St. Springfield\, IL) at 8:30 a.m. Coffee\, water\, and a light breakfast will be provided. You will receive a packet of information and your very own power bank\, courtesy of iDoc Device Repair! This will help you stay charged all day!\n\n\n\nOur Legislative Panel\, which will begin at 9 a.m.\, includes Rep. Norine Hammond\, Rep. Dan Swanson\, Sen. Mike Halpin\, and Sen. Neil Anderson. \n\n\n\nAt 10 a.m. we will hear from Kevin Semlow\, the director of state legislation at the Illinois Farm Bureau. \n\n\n\nLunch is generously sponsored by Western Illinois University and will be catered by Cafe Moxo. There will be an assortment of sandwiches\, salads\, and desserts. \n\n\n\nWe will eat lunch and then hear from several speakers at the Illinois Municipal League (IML). We will hear from Brad Cole\, Executive Director of IML\, and Robert Stephan\, Vice President of Downstate Relations from Intersect Illinois. \n\n\n\nNext up\, we head over to the state capitol to meet with Governor JB Pritzker in his ceremonial office! This is a wonderful opportunity for our group that we don't get every year! We will also take a group photo at this time.\n\n\n\nFinally\, we will end the day at the Illinois Department of Education (IDOT)\, where we will hear from Omer Osman\, IDOT Secretary. \n\n\n\nThe full schedule will be released soon. We are still finalizing a few last minute details! There will be additional speakers than those listed above. We are looking to add 1-2 more and will update the list asap!\n\n\n\nA few details:\n\n	There will not be a bus available this year. The costs have increased tremendously and tickets would have to be at least $100 per person\, so we opted not to rent a bus.\n	We strongly encourage carpooling! Parking is limited\, so the more people you can bring in one car\, the better. If you are willing to drive a car for carpooling\, please let us know and we will send out a sign-up for carpooling.\n	Please bring the charging cord to your phone to connect to the power bank in order to charge your phone during the day. A charging cord for the power bank is included\, but not the cord to connect to your phone.
