Chamber Statement on Racism
Chamber Statement on Racism
The Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce does not stand for discrimination of any kind, and we expect our member businesses and organizations to do the same. The recent altercation between the owner of Spirit in the Sky, who is not a Chamber member, and the five students at Western Illinois University is appalling and shameful. We do not condone this abhorrent racist behavior and we can assure you this is not a reflection of the Macomb business community as a whole. We feel great sadness for what these students had to experience at a local business and welcome them, or any other student, to reach out to us at any time. We will continue to promote inclusivity for all in Macomb area businesses.
We are distributing these anti-racism posters to area businesses over the next few days. You are also welcome to stop by our office to pick one up.
